ISSI Graduate Student Ángel Mendiola Ross has published the article “Policing the California Outercity: Drivers of Police Spending in a Changing Metropolis” in Social Problems. Ross’s article explores the relationship between increased investment in local law enforcement and the diversification of suburbia in California, pointing to the enduring role of police as a contemporary mechanism of social control and inequality.
