California Climate Action Seed Grants

September 28, 2023

The University of California has awarded Peter Nelson, faculty affiliate of the Joseph A. Myers Center for Research on Native American Issues, with a California Climate Action Seed Grant to fund his work towards wildfire control. Nelson’s project, Forging Essential Partnerships in Fire Stewardship to Meet State and Tribal Climate Action Goals, will work alongside Indigenous peoples in California to understand how long-standing burning traditions contribute to wildfire reduction while also supporting Tribal vitality. These findings will be used to develop an adaptive model to promote both climate justice and state climate action goals. More information about the UC award is in this news release.
