Dr. Roy Eric Xavier is the Director of the Portuguese and Macanese Studies Project, and a Visiting Scholar at U.C. Berkeley's Asian American Research Center, and the Institute for the Study of Societal Issues. His research focuses on the history of Luso-Asian and Macanese communities around the world, and cultural and economic diversity in modern day Macau, a Special Administrative Region of China. His articles have appeared in several publications, including his book, The Macanese Chronicles: A History of Luso-Asians in a Global Economy, a history of ethnic Portuguese in Asia from 1511 to the present. Dr. Xavier was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Macau in 2015, and was an advisor in 2020 to the Hong Kong Museum of History. In 2023, under a U.S. Consulate General-State Department grant, he is researching Macau’s economic diversity within China’s Greater Bay Area region.
