Through archival research, community workshops, and collaborative creative projects, the Archive of Urban Futures investigates how generations of Black Oakland residents have endured repeated waves of dispossession—driven in part by urban infrastructure projects that demolished homes and community spaces. The collective, including ISSI graduate students Clara Pérez Medina, Maya Sapienza, juleon robinson, and Bobby Ortiz Stahl, asks: How can we imagine a future city that breaks these cycles? This article describes their work and its contributions to an exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California, "Black Spaces: Reclaim and Remain," on view until March 1.
