Center for Research on Social Change faculty affiliate Cristina Mora is co-author of an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times. She says in California, support for undocumented immigrants remains strong. A solid majority of registered voters (regardless of political affiliation) consistently back a path to citizenship for those who come forward, pay taxes, and pass background checks. In August 2024, a UC Berkeley poll of over 4,000 voters confirmed this bipartisan support. While Harris emphasized border security and Trump continued harsh anti-immigrant language, most Californians still favored a humane, long-term solution for undocumented residents who contribute to their communities.
