Carolyn Smith, Myers Center faculty affiliate, joined UC Berkeley’s anthropology department as an assistant professor this year. This article published in Berkeley News discusses the impact a trip to the Klamath River had on Smith’s work and understanding he rIndigenous roots. Specializing in the art and significance of indigenous baskets, Smith was able to explore the connection between basket weaving culture with the Karuk language, life, history, family, food, and river. Professor Smith has been an affiliate of the Myers Center since her graduate student days, and we are pleased to welcome her to campus and the Myers Center in this new role.
