“Learning Language, Un/Learning Empathy in Medical School'' by Seth Holmes, Co-Chair of Berkeley Center for Social Medicine, was published in Culture, Medicine, and Psychiatry. In this article, Holmes explores the effects of medical school on patient empathy shown by healthcare providers, arguing that medical school teaches a performative empathy which is not conducive to true clinical care.
