In this new article in The Gerontologist, ISSI affiliated graduate student Melanie Plasencia examines how cultural characteristics help shape perceptions of "age-friendly" environments among Latinx older adults. Based on ethnographic research, Plasencia finds that Latinx older adults use the term Tranquilo Ambiente to describe an environment where they feel connected and safe. Her findings show that both structural and cultural environmental factors influence older Latinxs understandings of age-friendly communities
