ISSI Director Stephen Small received a grant from the France-Berkeley Fund for the new project “Counter-hegemonic narratives in European metropolis: heritage, identities, space." This project, with Co-PI Linda Boukhris, investigates counter-narratives of colonialism in heritage tours in four major cities across Western Europe: Bordeaux, Barcelona, Edinburgh and Lisbon. By focusing on these geographic spaces, they examine how Black and multi-racial populations challenge the dominant perception of Europe as having no legacies of slavery or racism.
