October 4, 2023

Tiana Bruno, faculty affiliate of the Center for Research on Social Change, has published a new article in the Annals of the American Association of Geographers. Bruno’s article, "Ecological Memory in the Biophysical Afterlife of Slavery," discusses the relationship between the devaluation of Black life and natural environments in order to argue the importance of integrating physical geography with Black geography. Using dendrochronology as an example, the article explores different methodologies to analyze the biophysical afterlife of slavery. Bruno’s full article is available to read here.
