Friday, September 22 from 8:30am-5pm PT

Alumni House, UC Berkeley

This one-day conference focuses on Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) health equity and physician leadership post-COVID. AANHPI leaders came to the forefront during the pandemic, but what does the future hold for these providers and their availability to improve population health?  With a public health equity lens, we'll address Asian Americans in medicine today, the perspectives and expertise of NHPI physicians and community leaders (and where they believe Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and Asian Americans most effectively partner and collaborate on issues of health policy), and AANHPI provider pathways to change-making leadership.

Afternoon Workshops at Alumni House and Social Sciences Building (Videos not available)

1:15 PM - 2:45 PM - Workshop sessions with experts

- Workshop A: Addressing health disparities in AANHPI communities, Toll Room, Alumni House

How can AANHPI physician and community health leaders continue to highlight the ongoing health care and health disparities among AANHPI communities, such as diabetes, Hepatitis B, mental health, etc.? What effective community interventions should be spotlighted and supported? What payment and policy changes are needed to support these community interventions to reduce the disparities?

- Workshop B: Climate change and impacts on AANHPI communities, Bechtel Room, Alumni House

What is the role of AANHPI physicians and community health leaders in addressing climate change, and especially its impact in Hawaii and the Pacific? How is the health sector addressing climate change? How can those efforts include AANHPI communities, including those working on environmental justice and climate justice?

- Workshop C: Deconstructing the model minority myth in medicine, Room 554, Social Sciences Building

How can AANHPI physicians and community health leaders respond to the attacks on affirmative action, which perpetuate the model minority myth, while significant AANHPI populations remain underrepresented in medicine?
