Anti-Black Racism Temporarily Declined After George Floyd's Death

November 5, 2021

A Black man in an orange shirt holds his fist up in the symbol for unity and solidarity at a protest held in George Floyd's honor. A sign behind the man reads "No Justice, No Peace."Amani Allen, ISSI faculty affliate, co-authored a new article in SSM - Population Healththat discusses findings of a decline in negative sentiment about Black people on social media and an increase in calls to action for long-lasting social change. These changes in racial sentimenteven temporarilyprovide windows of opportunities for enacting social change, but it does not necessarily mean that racism itself has declined. The study is discussed in the School of Public Health news story.
